 7th century Arabia. A time of feuding tribes vying for power and supremacy. 　　在戴夫（蒂姆·艾伦 Tim Allen饰）的心中，工作永远是第一位的，家中的妻儿在他的事业面前都得让路。如果没有这个意外，也许他永远亦不会意识到家人的重要性。　　戴夫在接到一桩动物实验的案件后展开侦查，不料与一只长毛狗打了交道：长毛狗咬了他一口，还传播给他一种离奇的病毒，重 新改造了他的基因。现在，戴夫变成了长毛狗，长毛狗变成了戴夫。他们的生活也互相调换，家里没有人知道那只又可怜又可爱的长毛狗就是自己的亲人，戴夫只有过着狗面人心的生活，眼巴巴看着智商为零的长毛狗霸占了自己一家之主的位置。更令人着急的是，当了狗的戴夫终于有空闲看着自己的家人如何生活，也终于觉悟到以往自己分给他们的爱实在是太少。但是以戴夫现在的状况，似乎只有后悔的份了。
